We’re on week #2 of our list building series and this is a personal fave! Why? Because it’s a whole eight steps shorter than last week’s post about hosting a telesummit, but just as effective.
If hosting a telesummit left you with a list-building-migraine, this week’s list building strategy is your Advil.
Last week I talked about inviting 24 people to be guests at a telesummit that would occur over a period of a few days. There was a lot of marketing, and planning, and — before I bring back the migraine — let’s just say it’s a big to-do!
This week, I wanted to offer an alternative that is less of a production. I call it the monthly mini-summit. It’s essentially the same concept, but broken down into simple, monthly actions! So, instead of offering 3-4 interviews a day for a week, you offer one interview a month. And you don’t have to worry about promoting anything beyond the simple call or video you’ve created with just one other person.
The result likely won’t be thousands of new subscribers to your list at once, like the telesummit might offer, but it might result in a couple hundred new followers a month, depending on the guest. And if you can commit to a monthly mini-summit, you’ll set yourself up for a robust list in less than a year while avoiding the list-building telesummit migraine!
So let’s take a look at what this might look like:
Step One: Make Your List + Invite Your First C.O.I. (That’s “Dallas Speak” for Center Of Influence, just FYI 🙂 )
Like in last week’s blog, it’s all about who you invite. Make a list of C.O.I.s who share an audience, and can contribute to your audience without directly competing. For specific examples, refer to step 2 of last week’s blog.
Reach out to one C.O.I. each month ask them how open they are to an interview. As part of your invitation, clarify their incentives:
1. The audio interview will be something you can both promote to your individual followings as added value.
2. Everyone who registers for the mini-summit will be a new subscriber for both your lists. So essentially, you’re doing some list-building footwork for both you and your guest! That’s an awesome incentive and your guest expert will feel the same way.
Step Two: Create Your Marketing Copy
Write some copy that you both can share through email and social media to promote the interview.
Step Three: Build Your Landing Page
Use a resource like leadpages.net to create a quick landing page describing the call and inviting people to sign up instantly. Again, everyone who signs up gets added to your list as well as the list of your guest!
Step Four: Rinse and Repeat
It’s that easy. Simply repeat the next month with a new guest!
